Ernest Herman Tanner, Jr. (Ernie)

04/17/1955 - 02/13/2026

Obituary:

It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Ernest Herman Tanner, Jr. (Ernie), 70, of South Hill, Virginia on February 13, 2025.
Infamous for his contagious smile, kind heart, and quick wit, Ernie never met a stranger. A local ‘celebrity’ well known for his 34 years in various roles at Hardee Ford Mercury and countless hours committed to fitness (and socializing) at the local gym. While he loved cruising around in his 1970 Tornio GT, Ernie was most proud to be a father to his son, Dustin.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents Ernest H. Tanner Sr. & Tresser S. Tanner and is survived by his beloved son, Dustin Tanner (Erika) of South Hill, brother Roger Tanner (Betty) of South Hill, sister Roslyn Thompson (Raymond) of Chester, “second son” Johnathan Bass, nephew Steve Tanner (Michelle), nephew Brian Tanner, niece Vickie Ellington (Keith), Jennifer Richardson (Roy), Mark Thompson (Sharon), his great nieces and great nephews, and his grandcats.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 6:30 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery, South Hill. Donations to the Lake Country SPCA (Clarksville) or to the Park View Boosters Club, Inc. in Ernie's memory are appreciated. Crowder=-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com.
