Mr. Meredith Baker "Doc" Freeman, Jr.

Meredith Baker Freeman, Jr. died peacefully on June 26, 2026. Affectionately known as “Doc,” he was born on February 18, 1948, to Meredith Baker and Mary Jeffreys Freeman of South Hill, Virginia. Following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, Doc continued the legacy of Freeman Motor Company in Lawrenceville, Virginia, alongside hisbrother, sons, and beloved employees. Established in 1945, the family business is more than a livelihood—it is a testament to generations of integrity, hard work, and service to the community. That legacy will continue through his sons, who remain committed to carrying forward the family businesses and the values on which they were built. A man of quiet strength and dignity, Doc took great pride in providing for his family through his work and his determination. His customers and coworkers became some of his dearest friends. In his own way, he cherished the time he spent with his family, creating memories through simple moments and shared experiences. He found joy in caring for the ducks at his pond, working on his properties, helping others in the community, and spending peaceful days at the lake or the beach. He found contentment on the water. His life was defined not by grand gestures, but by faithfulness, generosity, and a deep commitment to the people and places he loved. If ever asked how he was doing, his answer was always, “100 percent.” Doc was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his younger brother, Robert Jeffreys “Bobby” Freeman, his wife, Sharon, and their daughters, Jenifer Hite and Lauren Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Cheryl Clarke Freeman, and their shared six sons: Christopher Shea “Bitty” Freeman and his wife, Susan; Meredith Baker Freeman III; James Nelson Powell “Ish” Freeman and his wife, Shannah; R. Ashby Lundy III and his fiancée, Michelle; Cameron Clarke Lundy and his wife, Sarah; and Hunter Mitchell Lundy and his fiancée, Mary Kathryn. His four grandbabes—Mary Elizabeth Freeman, Kacy Lee Freeman, Landon James Freeman, and Carson Clarke Lundy—will carry their PaPa’smemory with them always. Piper, his favorite poodle, will no doubt miss her Favorite Person. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate hearts and hands who cared for him at South Hill Family Medicine, Liberty Dialysis, Davita Kidney Care, Sheltering Arms Institute, Memorial Regional Hospital, and Amedisys Hospice. He adored his many nurses and practitioners. They, too, were like family.
