Mr. Richard Allen Merkel

Mr. Richard Allen Merkel, age 83, of South Hill, died on Friday January 14, 2022 in the Hundley Center. He was a retired Assistant Vice-President for the former Bank of Virginia, working in the credit card security and fraud division, a United States Navy Veteran, an avid golfer and a lover of all animals. Mr. Merkel is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smiley Merkel of South Hill; his three sisters: Barbara, Anita and Mary, and his son. A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Thursday January 20th at 2:00 P.M. in Crestview Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Mr. Merkel’s name may be made to the Lake Country SPCA at P.O. Box 14, Clarksville, VA 23927 or through their website, www.lakecountryspca.org or to the Antioch Christian Church at P.O. Box 76, Henrico, NC 27842.
