  1. Friend and neighbor

22 years ago, soon after our arrival at Walnut Hill, we were met one mid-afternoon dockside by none other than “Captain” St Clair Smith and his bride Colleen in their boat and invited on a brief waterway tour of The Lake. It was a delightful welcoming!

As everyone in the neighborhood has experienced, we too shared many hours gabbing with the two of them. They would come down in their buggy and chat for a bit, then putt-putt back home. Often, St Clair would come down by himself and “chat” and bit longer. Those times will be cherished memories.

Now, each trip we make to The Lake, as we pass their home, we will feel their presence and mourn our loss.

    Lovely people, Finest kind…The Smith’s.

  2. Neighbor and friend

Coleen and St Clair were my mom and dad ( by association) for 25 years. I just found out from our neighbor , Jim Cando, who called after being hospitalized!
The world was a better place because of the Smiths and I was deeply honored to be a part of their life! With the death of St Clair , a piece of my soul has died! I shall miss knowing he
Is not there! When I moved 2 1/3 years ago from lake view Estates, COVID struck and St Clair and I were concerned about a visit and endangering his health, consequently time passes and we failed to visit him!
There were hundreds of wonderful memories but the last was my wife Alena putting plants in Coleens pots on the deck! We were planning to come and get pears from their pear trees after growing season this year!
I am 75 and in my life, I have met no finer family! I regret his passing and will forever be grateful for his and Coleens love through the years!
Bi shall miss them and pray that our paths shall , someday, pass again! I loved them

  3. Welcoming Neighbor

St. Clair was the first to welcome us last year to the neighborhood. So enjoyed his wandering down to see what we were up to and to share his interesting stories with us. He will be deeply missed. Prayers to his family.

  4. What A Wonderful Man

It’s not a trip to the lake without seeing St Clair on his mower or golf cart. Russ has made many “quick trips” outside to do something and I wouldn’t see him for over an hour later. Nine times out of 10, I’d find him talking to St Clair. He would often pop in while we were building our home to jokingly let us know that he enjoyed his lake view better before we started building 🙂 He was a dear friend and neighbor. People laugh about him still mowing his grass, but our favorite memory was driving down the street and finding him whacking at weeds with a machete that he was given during his war days. We asked him to please be careful and with his genuine grin, he let us know that after all these years, we could trust that he knew what he was doing. We will miss him! Our prayers are with his family.

  5. St. Clair was the type of neighbor everyone wishes for. As part-timers we could always count on him to “batten down the hatches” when a storm looming or come to our rescue when our inexperience outweighed our goals! We will miss a great man.

  6. To an unforgettable neighbor

Susan and I first met St. Clair twelve years ago when we moved into the cul de sac down the street on Walnut Hill Drive. We often took walks which carried us right by his house and more often than not he would be be outside tinkering with something or cutting the grass. In the past several years I expressed my concern to him being on that lawn mower when it was very hot but he just laughed and said he was fine. I used to own a Cessna airplane and found we had a common interest in our love of flying. He was never at a loss of words and would tell you exactly how he felt about politics and the world situation. We both considered him and his dear wife wonderful neighbors and they will always have a special place in our hearts. Ned and Susan Jordan

  7. Neighbor and Friend

When I joined the neighborhood 4 years back, while working on my house, St. Clair visited me often. He sat in my old lawn chair and we talked about everything. He was great to me and my family and I know he will be missed by many.

  8. Neighbor and friend

We will really miss ‘The Mayor” and especially the curb side chats, that could sometimes take an hour, to review and solve the world and neighborhood problems. Condolences and prayers to the family.

  9. Friend and neighbor

This subdivision will not be the same with our local “Mayor St. Clair” in residence. I will miss seeing him riding around in his golf cart and standing by the mail box where we had many wonderful conversatitons. Rest in peace my frined. You will be greatly missed.
