David Ernest Ratcliff

09/18/1964 - 01/29/2023

Obituary:

We are sad to announce the passing of David Ernest Ratcliff of Boydton, Va. He went to Heaven at 58 years of age on January 29, 2023. David had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. He loved to fish and was an awesome woodworker. He always had some sort of idea for an invention that would change the world. David was a man of faith and can now rest in Heaven by his mother Eloise Wells Puls and his father Jimmy Ratcliff, who passed in 2021 and 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melody Moore Ratcliff, sister Teresa Menard, brother Todd Ratcliff, daughter Candi Ratcliff, son Chad Ratcliff, two step-daughters; Shawna Bowen and April Stroup, and step-son Josh Bowen. David also has seven grandchildren he loved very much. In lieu of flowers and in memory of David “take a child fishing”.

  1. I was fortunate enough to have David as a best friend for over 35 years.we spent hundreds of hours hunting and fishing and doing things that friends do. The world will be a lesser place without David. I will never forget you and look forward to the day when we can sit and fish once again.
    Good bye my friend…love you!!

  2. Melody – so sorry to hear of David’s passing, he was a true friend and outstanding neighbor. He always looked forward to meeting (driving over) to catch up and see if anyone needed anything – his compassion & willingness to help others will always stay with me – always put a smile on my face with his enthusiasm and drive. Enjoyed talking about all the plans he had and new endeavors you guys were undertaking. He will be missed. You and you family will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

  3. My neighbor, my friend

Not just my neighbor, my friend. I can’t count the hours we spent together on the land working and sweating and talking about Jesus. Go rest high my friend. Man I am going to miss you. From the fresh fish you would bring over, trading bamboo and chickens for some help clearing the land… I can hear you coming up the drive into my workshop… “preacher, you need to sharpen your chainsaw. Let me have that”. The next day it would be sitting on my bench good as new. Just an awesome friend. Someone I miss talking with, and hearing his latest invention. We will take RJ and Sam fishing this week for you buddy. Thanks for the memories and all of the help on the homestead. Praying for your family. Love ya.
