Mr. A. Ray Kennedy

Obituary:

Mr. A. Ray Kennedy, age 93, of South Hill, died on Wednesday February 15, 2023. Ray was a loving husband, father and pawpaw. He also was a very well respected building contractor, a long time active member of Sanford Memorial Baptist Church who served as a Deacon, a current member of La Crosse Baptist Church, an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and a United States Army Veteran. Ray is survived by his wife, Patsi L. Kennedy of South Hill; his daughter, Stacy Crowder and her husband Joel of South Hill; his son, Steven Kennedy of Henderson, North Carolina; his step-son, Sean Wright and his wife April of Brodnax; his step-daughter, Robyn Wright of Lacey, Washington; his four brothers: Gene Kennedy of South Hill, Joe Kennedy of Richmond, Wayne Kennedy of Louisa and Lowell Kennedy of Ashland; his three sisters: Virginia Bridges of Beaver Dam, VA, Naomi Nichols of Camden Arkansas and Sarah Burnside of Coldwater, Mississippi; his eight grandchildren: Leigh Ann Basil, Nikki Kennedy-Amos, Courtney Borgfield, Steven Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy Dorbeck, Lauren Dorbeck Hurston, Emily Crowder Neal and Hunter Daniel Wright; his many loving great-grandchildren and his beloved fur baby pet dog, Charlie. Ray was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise T. Kennedy; his daughter, Marcia Cartagena; his son, Darnell Kennedy and four brothers: Richard Kennedy, Harold Kennedy, Chester Kennedy and Alvin Kennedy. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday February 25th at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until service time in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Ray’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.     So many memories of hunting, fishing, and cooking pigs and joking around with my good friend Ray. I will miss you Ray but have those wonderful memories to keep forever.

    Now it is time for you to reap the rewards God has kept in store for you.

  2. My sincere condolences to his wife and family. He was a very nice man. Praying for the family, I am just hearing about this today. I pray God will give his wife and children comfort during this difficult times

    My deepest condolences to this entire family for your loss…I have known Ray since I was a young girl and walked to elementary school with several of his children….later I shared classes and graduated with Marsha…one of the kindest and sweetest man I ever knew …to everyone he was a true blessing….Heaven will surely have a special place prepared for this Angel….Love to the family ….Rest in Paradise Ray 🙏🏽🌌
