Mr. Richard Allen Bowman

12/11/1964 - 03/12/2024

Obituary:

On Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, Richard Allen Bowman (59) went home to be with the Lord. He passed of natural causes while at his dream home in Boydton, Virginia. Richard was born on December 11th, 1964 in Pakistan to Richard and Janet Bowman while they were serving in the Peace Corp. After returning to the United States, Richard spent his childhood and early adulthood in Laurel, Maryland. Richard and the love of his life, Tracey, celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on March 1st, 2024. Together they have three beautiful daughters; Amanda Smith (37) married to Joshua Smith, Jessica Sewell (36) married to David Sewell and Elizabeth Bowman (32). He treasured his three grandchildren; Olivia Smith (20), Colten Smith (14) and Charlie Smith (12). He is also survived by his three siblings: Randall S. Bowman married to Karen, Rebecca E. Dacey married to Joseph and Ryan J. Bowman married to Katie. Richard was dedicated to his nearly 40 year career in the insurance industry with 25 of those years spent successfully at The Hartford Insurance Company. He was a friend and mentor to many of those who were privileged to have worked with him. The love of Jesus Christ shined brightly through Richard in the way he loved and served his family, friends and all those around him. Everyone who knew Rich knew how much he loved the outdoors. He and his wife Tracey built their retirement home on Lake Gaston in Virginia where he spent countless hours on his beloved bass boat. His favorite pastime was fishing, whether it was from the bank, alone in his kayak or on his boat with those he loved. Rich will always be remembered for his entertaining stories and his deep wisdom. So many looked to him for guidance and there was never a time when Rich turned someone away. Although we know he’s praising our Lord in Heaven, he will be tremendously missed by the many here on Earth who were blessed to have known him. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and mentor. A memorial service to honor the life of Richard Bowman will be held on Wednesday, March 20th at 11am at Fourth Presbyterian Church located at 5500 River Road in Bethesda, Maryland 20816. A reception at the home of Ryan and Katie Bowman will follow the service. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Bowman family.

  1. Prayers and condolences

Grew up 3 houses away in Montpelier with Rich and his family. Rich was a close boyhood friend up through going to college together. We had great times together. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers and condolences for his family and friends.

  2. The most kind man

I worked with Rich at The Hartford and had the privilege to work with him on a few projects. He was so kind and patient and I can remember so many times laughing with him. I was so surprised by his loss. My heart and prayers have been with his family. A scripture that gives me comfort is at Revelation 21:3,4 “ With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

  3. My deepest sympathy

My deepest sympathy to Rich’s family and friends. I worked with Rich for several years and while he was passionate about his work and team, there was nothing he loved more than his family (of course, fishing was a close second). I hope you find comfort in your memories of him and knowing he was respected and loved by those who knew him.

  4. So sorry to hear of your family’s loss. I worked with Rich for a few years at The Hartford and really enjoyed the few times he took me fishing. He was good man and I will miss him. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

To the Bowman family and the many friends Rich left behind- you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of a well loved and respected man. Amanda and Josh,
I am so sorry to hear of your father‘s passing, I never knew him, of course, but his obituary made him sound like an amazing man, who blessed you all in so many ways. I will be praying for all of you as you adjust to his absence. Enjoy your memories of him. They are a blessing.

  13. Dear Tracy and family, You mom called me yesterday to tell me of Rich’s passing. I am so, so sorry. I have walked and still walk this path. Rich was a good man and you and the girls were blessed. You and all the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  14. I am devastated. The countless hours rich and I worked together at The Hartford were memorable and gratifying. I was blessed to have rich by my side for many years. He was fond of blaming me for getting him to move to Connecticut. He was one of those special people that forever impacts one’s life My most sincere condolences to Tracey and the entire Bowman family .

  15. With love

We are deeply saddened by this news, as We three loved Rich so much. Mom and Dad knew him from Childhood- adulthood. He was a blessing- and another “son” to love. I have fond memories of him while growing up, so kind, always offering a hug or some type of advice. it was evident how much he loved his ffamily. I’m thinking of the words of his father. He often would say it’s a win-win for me.. I win if I’m here on earth with family and I win if I’m in heaven with Jesus. Although the loss of those that we love will forever be devastating there is hope for the Future. May you all find comfort knowing that he has won. We love you and are praying for you all.

  16. Becky, our prayers are with you and your family. I can’t even imagine how hard this must be, especially knowing how close you two were. My heart breaks for you. I know his devotion to the Lord will be remembered and I hope knowing that will helps the healing process. I love you. ❤️💕 n
