Shirley Hendrick "Susie" Moody

Obituary:

Mrs. Shirley Hendrick “Susie” Moody, age 66, of Smith Cross Roads, died at her residence on
Tuesday, August 20, 2024. She was retired from the United States Postal Service and Edward
Jones Financial Advisors. Shirley was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in South Hill.
Shirley is survived by her husband of forty years, Thomas Michael Moody of Smith Cross
Roads, three daughters; Shannon Hinkle and husband Tony of Kenbridge, Sabrina Crafton and
husband David of Castalia, NC, and Rebecca Elizabeth Divine and husband Jack of Murrells’
Inlet, SC, one son Bryan Moody and wife Valerie of South Hill.
Susie is survived by two sisters Gloria Shelton of Crewe and Carolyn Powell (Edward) of
Freeman, and three brothers; Henry D. Hendrick, Jr. and Wayne Hendrick (Virginia) of South
Hill and Robert L. Hendrick (Deborah) of Skipwith, VA. Shirley is also survived by a sister in
law, Patricia Moody Lewis (Ralph) and John Moody of Bracey.
Shirley leaves her nine grandchildren: Caleb Hinkle (Sydney) of Brodnax, Jacob Hinkle
(Chelsey) also of Brodnax, Nathan Crafton of Castalia, NC, Chase Crafton of Holly Springs, NC,
Will, Parker and Gracie Hadden of Murrells Inlet, SC, Hayley Moody (Luke Daniel) of South
Hill and Kennedy Moody of South Hill, two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Hinkle and Ryland
Grissom.
Susie, as her family called her, was honored to have numerous nieces and nephews that she loved
as her own and had very special relationships with.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Henry D. Hendrick, Sr. and Mildred K. Hendrick, a
sister, Patricia Hendrick Ezell, two brothers-in-laws, Bryce Ezell and Toney Shelton, and three
granddaughters, Hannah Hinkle, Madeline and Morgan Crafton.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 24, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church,
255 Union Mill Rd, La Crosse, VA 23950 at 2:00 P.M. with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The
family will receive friends also on Saturday from 12:30 until the time of service. The family
suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny
Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38015, Mecklenburg County Cancer Association, MCCA, PO Box
311, Chase City, VA 23924, or New Hope Baptist Church, 255 Union Mill Rd, La Crosse, VA

  1. When I saw her at the hospital I had no idea she would be leaving us so soon. She fought so long and hard to stay with you as long as she could. Love and prayers to all of you that she loved so very much. Heaven gained another angel.

I am so sorry for your loss…..I had the pleasure of knowing your mom for 42 years…..she was my very first boss ever…. babysitting for Shannon and Sabrina when I was only 14….she had such a lovable spirit then and that never changed no matter where or when I saw her throughout the years….she will surely be missed by so many… praying for peace and comfort in this most difficult time🙏🙏🙏
