Mr. Billy Orville Murphy, age 91, of South Hill, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026 surrounded by family. Billy was a Police Officer for the Town of South Hill and the son of Cecil Murphy and Grace Lee Murphy. Billy was married to the late Joyce H. Murphy for 50 years, who he now joins. Among those to cherish Billy’s memory are his son, Audie Murphy (Nancy) of South Hill; his daughter, Deborah Burch of South Hill; a granddaughter that he raised and loved as a daughter, Billie Jo Gwaltney (Robert); his brother, Roger Murphy (Kitty) of Indiana; his Grandchildren, Chris Murphy (Crystal), Stacey King, Sheri House, Brad Thomason (Taylor), Stephanie Dorman (Chris), Justin Burch (Wendy) and as well as 14 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren who he loved dearly. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Crowder – Hite – Crews Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held the following day, Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Crowder – Hite – Crews Funeral Home with a private burial at Crestview Memorial Park. Audie and Deborah, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. My sincerest condolences to your families. I pray our Lord will give you peace and comfort during these difficult times.
When Billy came to town years ago he was certainly controversial until he got to know South Hill and settled into his job. My opinion is in the long term he was a positive for our town.
I hope he rests in peace and wish peace to all family members.
