He was the youngest of 4 children. He grew up on a farm and learned all about tobacco growing and harvesting which led to his profession as a tobacco buyer for Universal Leaf. He loved competition in work and in sports which served him well since selling tobacco was through an auction system.

Dennis was a Godly and strong family man who served as secretary/treasurer for over 60 years at Berea. For many decades, he was an important part of the leadership, board of directors, and physical maintenance in service to the Christadelphian Youth Camp near Chase City, VA.
Dennis loved to tell stories and jokes to make people laugh. He is remembered by many for his turns of phrase, unique expressions, and one-liners. He loved playing cards with family and friends. He was an active, devoted, hardworking husband and father. He was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching and playing sports of all kinds (basketball, football, baseball, horseracing, etc.).
Dennis leaves behind his cherished wife, Carol; his daughter, Cynthia (Paul) Pursell of Salida, CO and their 3 children, Jonah, Brandon, and Kayla; his son, David (Cory) Love of South Hill, VA and their 3 children, Micah, Shana, and Nathan. Dennis will be dearly missed by family and friends who knew him as a man of principle, kindness, and humor.
