Mr. Lawrence Joel Clay

Mr. Lawrence Joel Clay, age 79, of Brodnax, passed away on Wednesday October 7, 2026 in his home. He was a surveyor supervisor for VDOT, who retired after 38 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Riggie Clay of Brodnax; his two sons: Scot Crutchfield of Brodnax and Dean Crutchfield and his wife Loretta of Chase City; his daughter, Donna Simpson of South Hill; his two grandchildren: Amanda Crutchfield and Zachary Simpson; his brother, Clarence Clay of Bracey; his many loving nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Kevin Clay; his sister-in-law, Glenna Clay and his brother-in-law, Mike Maxey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lucy Clay; his two brothers: Ernest Clay, Jr. and his wife Alice and Jimmy Clay; his sister, Ellen Maxey and his sister-in-law, Jean Clay. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 13th at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
