Margaret Hite Martin

Margaret Hite Martin, age 101, passed from this life into her eternal home on February 23, 2026. She was the widow of W. Drewry Martin and daughter of the late Arlington and Sarah Viola Hite. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dennis Hite Hammond, her brother, William A. (Bill) Hite, and great-grandson, Christopher Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann King (Wayne), her son, James A. (Jim) Martin (Laura); grandchildren: Kimberly King, April Kelly, Travis King, Pam Martin, and Crystal Martin; great-grandchildren: Courtney Eastland, Cody Luce, Brock Puryear, Bradley Martin, Braedan Kelly, and Clare Puryear; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Gabi, Aldon, and Sammy Eastland, and Paisleigh, Payton, Walker, and Wyatt Luce. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Randolph Hite, Randy Jones, Ruth Jorstad, and Sarah Silverman. She was a loving and devoted wife for 44 years, building a life rooted in commitment, partnership, and family. A woman of remarkable energy and dedication, she served as an Avon representative for 17 years, formed lasting friendships through her work, and brightened countless days. She was also employed by the Mecklenburg County School System for 22 years, faithfully contributing to the lives of students and colleagues alike. Never one to slow down, she later worked in the Activities Department at Pine View Retirement Home for 19 years, bringing joy and engagement to its residents before retiring at the remarkable age of 87. A woman of deep and abiding faith, she had been a member of Ephesus Baptist Church since 1952, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Vacation Bible School worker, and in many other capacities throughout the years. When her health began to decline, she relocated to Glen Allen, Virginia. There, she began attending Hunton Baptist Church and officially moved her membership in 2019, continuing her lifelong commitment to worship, fellowship, and service. Funeral services will be held at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, South Hill, Virginia, on Saturday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Interment at Ephesus Baptist Church cemetery. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to the Benevolence Fund at Hunton Baptist Church, 11660 Greenwood Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059; or the Cemetery Fund at Ephesus Baptist Church, 4057 Goodes Ferry Road, South Hill, VA 23970.
